The Academy Awards 2011 Style

If the stars aren't going to win an award for acting, they most definitely need to get themselves noticed on the red carpet. We would always choose a vintage dress! Here are some of your favourite vintage or vintage-like outfits!

Anne Hathaway looked stunning in a vintage red Valentino haute couture dress. Accessorized by the designer himself, we are envious!

Livia Firth stayed true to her eco friendly beliefs by wearing a dress made with cuttings from dresses from the 1920's. Tom Firth wears Tom Ford, a man can never go wrong in a Tom Ford suit!

Florence Welch, one of our favourite style icons showed how British girls love to look unique. She wore Valentino Haute couture.

Hailee Steinfield looked super cute and age appropriate in Marchesa.

Prada's sixties references.

Miuccia strikes again! We loved the vintage feel of the Prada show! We are coveting everything, especially the sunglasses and fur details. The quirky fur helmuts will definitely keep us warm next winter so they perfect for the streets of Manchester!

Hoping we will get some similar items at the next Vintage Threads!

Style Icon; Lauren Hutton

Here is a style icon that should interest all our readers. Lauren Hutton does chic androgyny like very few can (her long legs and good looks help). There are some items at Vintage Threads that our girls look at but may not pick up; oversized shirts, tweed trousers, cable knits. Lauren shows us how to wear them.

For the male Vintage Threads goers, this will help you shop for clothes that your girlfriend can share; everyone's a winner.

We love how she has managed to stay so glamorous from the 70's right up til now. She recently was a cover star on Love Magazine! It shows us that if you stay true to your own style you never go out of fashion!

What will we be wearing next winter??

Okay, I know we haven't even had any summer yet but we all know what we are going to be wearing (bright colours, 70's...). It's time to think about what bits we should be gathering for next winter because if you see something at Vintage Threads it's best to get it then as it's likely to be gone by the next fair.

I am currently obsessed with internet feeds from the fashion weeks! We have had NY and now we are enjoying London. As per usual several of the shows had a lot of inspirations from past eras, the classics that never date! So here are some of our favourites to give you an idea of what to be hunting for at Vintage Threads between now and then!

Burberry

Donna Karan
The Row
Louise Gray
Marc by Marc Jacobs

Floral Prints

In case you hadn't noticed - we love floral wallpaper print at Vintage Threads. It is pasted on the back of our Twitter wall, our logo and most importantly on our dresses.

Coming into the summer months we will be seeing a lot more floral print (it looks great on a ditsy festival dress). The look screams femininity and fun!

We had some amazing options at this month’s fair. They were the sort of dresses that unfashionable by-standers may comment “why is she wearing a curtain?” However, the more fashion savvy amongst us will recognise that it is Laura Ashley we have on our back!

Colour Blocking at Vintage Threads

We have talked a lot about how the 70's look is huge right now. It's one of Vintage Threads favourite looks for the season. Another huge Spring/Summer trend which has been plastered all over the magazines is colour blocking. I can't even begin to name all the shows this trend was seen at!

We had some great colour blocking pieces at this months fair. My personal favourites were a pair of purple shoes which were too big for me (boo) and a blue playsuit which I treated myself to (It was only £10 and Vogue's catwalk report told me blue was in).

I also loved how Jeny and Amber had colour blocked their rails. It made the entrance look so cheerful which was much needed with the rain blowing sideways outside.

I noticed a lot of the shoppers were still in khakis and blacks which was probably much more suitable for the weather conditions. I just hope that the weather in Manchester will have cleared up a bit by March so we can wear our colourful buys.

Happy Valentines

The day may have been created by Hallmark but who doesn't love the chance to send their secret love an anonymous card, receive flowers, get wined and dined or party in rebellion with single friends! Valentine’s Day is what you make it, so rather than crying into pillows why not embrace the fact there is love in the world!

For the big Valentines’ fans out there, we had some very cute themed dresses at the Jeny and Amber stall at this months fair!

A huge Happy Valentines from all of us at Vintage Threads!

New York Style Inspiration

For those of you lucky enough to be in NYC for fashion week, here is a bit of true New York style inspiration! For those of us who are still in Manchester it may give us some ideas on how to wear our Vintage Threads buys.

Denim Cut Offs

For those of us who want to look fashionable but be practical in both winter and summer months there are few items that are affordable but will also take us through the seasons. One of these items is denim cut-offs. Levis 501's are probably the most requested at Vintage Threads but any high waisted 90's numbers will do. Wear them with tights through the colder months and by summer, after a few post Christmas trips to the gym, we may be lucky enough to look like Cindy Crawford in the famous Pepsi advert.

If you want to stay on trend this summer the key trends to pick out will be prints, colour and anything 70's! I will be on the hunt for some bright coloured print sunglasses, a combination of all the trends.

Laura Ashley

One of our favourite dresses at the Christmas Vintage Threads fair was an original Laura Ashley gown. Blue with a big bow at the back, it was figure hugging and attention grabbing.

Rumour has it that there was more than one Laura Ashley dress at the last fair but unfortunately our fashion savvy shoppers had got their hands on the others before I had a chance to even see them!

We’ll all be going mad for the 70's this summer, the era that Laura Ashley was biggest in and a floating floral maxi of hers would definitely look great on the streets of Manchester - once theweather brightens up. So fingers crossed there will be some more there on Saturday!
